DAY 2

Started very lazily for us with us not heading into the festival site until 3-4pm.
We missed 'getting our black on' with My Chemical Romance, and then 'getting our bimbo on' with ke$ha, but we couldnt really care less as we were just wanting to get there in time to get in front of the main stage for White Lies.
Which leads me to...

Main Stage - White Lies

Wow. What a surprise packet these guys were. I was already a fan of White Lies and had been for a while, but not having seen them live before, I wasn't sure what to expect.
I'm not sure if any of the girls in the crowd, including the two I was with, one of them being my wife, heard much of the music they played, as they were all hypnotised by frontman, Harry's smile on the big screen, as they discovered, what our Werchter buddy Jess described as her 'new lead singer crush'.
But I did hear it, and it was amazing. Harry seemed to be in awe of the sea of fans in front of him, and didnt take a backward step as they pumped out their anthemic rock tunes which were definitely more than at home at this huge Belgian festival.
I definitely expected to enjoy their show, but not nearly as much as I did. Awesome.

Main Stage - Arctic Monkeys

Time for the boys from Sheffield, including one of the greatest lyricists of our time, Alex Turner.
One of my most anticipated acts of the weekend. And of course, they did not disappoint.
Would have loved to enjoy watching the Monkeys with my girl...but...halfway through she decided she seriously could not hold it any longer, and had to leave us and swim the mass of drunken festival goers. She tells us she found her way back to where we were......but she got to where she thought we were, but realised she was on the wrong side of the stage, and had to enjoy the show with strangers. I am certain her misdirection was alcohol-induced.
Anyway, they were great, and live, I enjoyed their new material a lot more than I did when I had first heard it on the album.
Alex is the man.

Main Stage - Kings of Leon

When Megan hadn't made her way back by the end of the Arctic Monkeys, the whole of 40min interval before the Kings of Leon took to the stage was spent holding a giant foam hand as high as I could as a beacon for her to look for and head in the direction of. The crowd around us had cottoned on that we were waiting and looking for someone, and we had quite a bit of support for the cause by the end. They kept telling me, 'I dont think she's going to make it!!' 'When will you give up?. I told them I would give up when Kings of Leon started. Well, by some way of a miracle, she appeared in front of me to a cheer from all around about 30 seconds before the Christian rockers from Tenessee walked onto stage.
The crowd had definitely intensified by the time they started, and as always they rocked the 80-90 000 strong crowd with their acclaimed rock anthems, including one of my favourite songs to hear live, Knocked Up.
And as always, the set was very satisfying for loyal old school KoL fans with a great mix of old and new tracks.
